Jal Nigam Department

 Jal Nigam (Rural) Department primarily provides clean drinking water, sewerage systems (drainage of wastewater), and sewage disposal in urban and rural areas. It is responsible for installing tap connections (FHTC), constructing water tanks, and maintaining the water supply network.

Jal Jeevan Mission is a major scheme of the Government of India, launched in 2019. Its primary objective is to provide clean drinking water through taps to every rural household. Other objectives of the scheme include:-

• Improving the health of rural communities and reducing waterborne diseases.
• Reducing the manual labor of women and girls in fetching water and empowering them.
• Increasing employment opportunities at the rural level.
• Promoting a community-based approach to water (a people’s movement).
