Deputy Commissioner, State Tax Department

The State Tax Department (Commercial Tax Department) is a key administrative department of the state government, primarily responsible for the administration, assessment, and collection of indirect taxes (such as SGST, VAT, and other statutory taxes) levied on the trade of goods and services within the state. This department works to prevent tax evasion, ensure compliance with GST rules, and provide services such as registration to taxpayers.

Its primary objective is to strengthen the state treasury and bring businesses within the tax system.

For businesses registered with the department, the state government provides a lump sum of ₹10 lakh to a family dependent in the event of accidental death or permanent disability of the business owner under the Chief Minister’s Business Accident Insurance Scheme.
