The main job of a District Forest Officer (DFO – Divisional Forest Officer) is to protect the forests, trees, and wild animals in their area, enforce government rules, and handle environmental-related work.

Main duties and responsibilities of a DFO:-

• Forest Conservation: Protecting forests from fire, illegal encroachments, and damage.
• Preventing Illegal Logging: Stopping illegal cutting and smuggling of timber and taking action against offenders.
• Wildlife Management: Ensuring the safety of wild animals and handling cases of human-wildlife conflict (like clashes between humans and animals).
• Afforestation: Planting new trees, maintaining environmental balance, and implementing afforestation plans.
• Legal Powers: Taking action against those violating the rules under the Indian Forest Act, including fines or measures like warrants/arrests.
