About the Campaign

The ‘Zero Waste Mahotsav Social Media Challenge’ is a public-participation-driven digital initiative by the Information Department, Baghpat district, developed based on a suggestion by ‘MY Bharat’ volunteer Aman Kumar. The campaign aims to turn every devotee, Kanwariya, and citizen into a digital brand ambassador for the Zero Waste Mahotsav. Through social media, it seeks to share the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Shri Parashurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple, the message of “Devotion and Nature” (*Bhakti bhi, Prakriti bhi*), and the concept of a clean, green, and eco-friendly religious event with the entire nation.

The campaign posters will also promote the QR-based ‘Kanwar Yatra App’ to ensure that the maximum number of devotees can avail themselves of digital public services. Participants who garner the highest number of likes and comments will be felicitated by the district administration. This initiative strives to establish Baghpat’s Zero Waste Mahotsav model as an inspiring example of public participation, digital innovation, and responsible religious tourism at the national level.

About the Kanwar Yatra App:

The ‘Kanwar Yatra App’ is an innovative digital public service initiative by the District Administration of Baghpat, launched by District Magistrate Ms. Asmita Lal. Developed by the Information Department, this QR code-based digital platform benefited from the voluntary technical contribution of ‘MY Bharat’ volunteer Aman Kumar. Notably, this initiative was developed at zero cost, allowing devotees to instantly access essential services and authentic information related to the pilgrimage simply by scanning a QR code, without needing to download a separate mobile app. The initiative is based on the concept of being a “digital companion at every step—from entering the district to the *Jalabhishek* (ritual offering of water),” ensuring convenience, safety, and timely assistance for devotees throughout their journey.

This app is an innovative example of the convergence of faith and technology. Offering multiple public services with a single click, the initiative integrates features such as digital maps, control room access, emergency assistance, public amenities, grievance redressal, and authentic updates. It also reinforces messages regarding a “Zero Waste Festival,” the theme of “Devotion and Nature” (*Bhakti bhi, Prakriti bhi*), and responsible religious tourism. This model demonstrates how local innovation, youth participation, and the effective use of digital technology can make religious events safer, more organized, eco-friendly, and devotee-centric. Baghpat’s initiative serves as an inspiring example of digital good governance and administration-citizen partnership, one that can be replicated for other religious events.
