Social Welfare Department

The Social Welfare Department is an important branch of the Government of India and state governments, whose primary objective is to provide social security and economic support to the vulnerable, disadvantaged, and backward sections of society.

The Social Welfare Department’s function is to establish equality in society and bring into the mainstream those who have been marginalized due to various reasons—such as poverty, illiteracy, physical disability, or social discrimination.

This department runs various schemes specifically for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), the disabled, the elderly, and women.

  • It is a free coaching initiative that provides guidance to meritorious but economically weak students for competitive exams like UPSC, UPPSC, NEET, JEE, NDA, CDS.
6 Scheduled Caste Atrocities Relief Scheme 14566
  • Under the financial assistance, compensation is given to persons belonging to Scheduled Castes suffering from atrocities depending on the severity of the cases.

  • A one-time financial assistance of ₹30,000 is to help poor families whose main breadwinner dies.

  • To provide educational opportunities to children from historically disadvantaged and educationally backward classes, especially Scheduled Castes, who were deprived of education due to social inequalities and the practice of untouchability in the pre-independence period.
